According to the CDC, 2-5 million, animal bites occur annually in the United States and per the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), close to 10,000 insect bites or stings were reported to their centers. This presentation will be delivered in a case study format to help the participant identify needed history taking, recognize proper wound care if needed, and delineate required interventions. New insights into the immunopathology of FA have led to development of cautious use of controlled exposure to food allergens through allergen immunotherapy and emerging use of monoclonal antibody therapy to interfere with the synthesis of immunoglobulin E (IgE).
