The hand is one of the most frequently injured parts of a child's body, accounting for approximately 15% of pediatric fractures and 2.3% of all pediatric emergency room visits. Early recognition along with appropriate and timely management of these injuries is necessary in order to prevent potential functional deficits or cosmetic deformities. The presenter will provide clinical pearls for evaluating pediatric/adolescent hand injuries and review current treatment recommendations for both definitive care as well as initial management in the primary care and acute care emergency room settings. |

Navigating the Psychosocial and Cultural Barriers Impacting Breastfeeding Among African American Mothers 1.25 NAPNAP contact hours and 1.25 L-CERP. This continuing education activity is offered free to members of the Breastfeeding Education Special Interest Group (BFE SIG). Many African American mothers want to breastfeed for the health benefits but have unique challenges in initiating and sustaining breastfeeding. When health care providers have knowledge of psychosocial factors and cultural beliefs underlying African American mothers' infant feeding decisions, they can more effectively assist in overcoming challenges and influence successful breastfeeding practices. During this session, the provider will gain knowledge of the psychosocial and cultural barriers that impact breastfeeding duration among African American mothers and evidence-based culturally sensitive breastfeeding assessment and supportive interventions will be presented that target their unique breastfeeding challenges. |
