Introduction to Tickborne Diseases and Disease Prevention (Module 1)
1.25 NAPNAP Contact Hour. This continuing education activity is offered free for NAPNAP Members and for non- members.
This 4-part series will enable front-line clinicians to recognize, diagnose, and treat Lyme disease, an increasingly common tickborne illness. The free online curriculum will be a valuable resource for primary care clinicians, public health professionals, pharmacists, and health educators who encounter clients with Lyme disease.
The 4-part series includes the following courses:

Lyme Disease Clinical Overview (Module 2)
Lyme Disease Testing and Diagnosis (Module 3)
Lyme Disease Treatment and Management (Module 4)
The National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) is proud to announce its Nurse Practitioner Education and Knowledge Assessment for Lyme Disease initiative, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
NAPNAP was awarded funding for the campaign via the CDC’s Mobilizing Pediatric Provider Networks: An Education and Training Initiative to Prevent and Control Infectious Disease Threats federal award project.
The long-term goals of this project are to increase the number of pediatric-focused nurse practitioners (NPs) who actively use evidence-based guidelines and recommended best practices in their interactions with their patients and families and to improve clinical outcomes among patients with suspected or confirmed Lyme disease.
This continuing education activity is administered by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) as an Agency providing continuing education credit. Individuals who complete this program will be awarded 1.25 NAPNAP contact hour, of which 0 is pharmacology content.

Learning Objectives
The goal of this activity is to provide vital knowledge to healthcare providers regarding how to identify manifestations of Lyme disease at different stages of disease to ensure healthcare providers can readily identify, diagnose, and treat Lyme disease.
- Explain Lyme disease transmission.
- Identify where Lyme disease is endemic in the United States.
- Describe the procedure when a patient presents after a tick bite.
- Identify when Lyme disease post-exposure prophylaxis is appropriate.
- Describe the recommended medication regimen for Lyme disease post-exposure prophylaxis.
- Explain how to counsel patients about tick bite prevention.
- Describe your role as a member of the interprofessional team managing a patient with Lyme disease.
