Social justice issues and COVID-19 have exposed inequities to accessing high-quality care throughout the health care system. “This Moment in Time” presents an opportunity to leverage our outrage and take steps to make sustainable changes that promote equitable care across all populations. This presentation focuses on the critical first step in the transformation to providing equitable and inclusive care to our youth. Using a framework to recognize implicit bias, videos and cases will be critiqued to manage implicit bias with BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and disabled youth.

This session will provide an overview of the epidemiology of youth suicide, and present evidenced-based approaches to preventing this tragic loss of young life. Related health equity and social determinant of health issues, including lethal means reduction will be discussed. The session will also introduce the Alliance to Prevent Youth Suicide, a new five year initiative supported by NAPNAP Partners for Vulnerable Youth. Attendees of this session will leave with increased knowledge, tools and resources to assist in addressing this critical issue.

Our research seeks to understand infant sleep norms, parental perceptions of infant sleep problems, correlations between infant sleep issues and parental wellbeing, and the effectiveness of sleep training. We hypothesize that infant sleep counseling will lead to improved measures of infant sleep, lower incidence of parental stress, and reduced incidence of unsafe sleep practices such as bedsharing.

According to the CDC, 2-5 million, animal bites occur annually in the United States and per the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), close to 10,000 insect bites or stings were reported to their centers. This presentation will be delivered in a case study format to help the participant identify needed history taking, recognize proper wound care if needed, and delineate required interventions. Lastly, appropriate pharmacology will be introduced, including a discussion on if and when antimicrobials and prophylaxis are warranted.

Attendees will leave with the latest evidence of the physical, neurodevelopmental, behavioral health and environmental harms associated with youth tobacco/nicotine use. We will also discuss health equity issues related to tobacco use and current policy and regulatory issues and challenges.
