Navigating the Psychosocial and Cultural Barriers Impacting Breastfeeding Among African American Mothers 1.25 NAPNAP contact hours and 1.25 L-CERP. This continuing education activity is offered free to members of the Breastfeeding Education Special Interest Group (BFE SIG). For non-members, this continuing education activity rate is $25.00, and for members of NAPNAP, the activity rate is $12.50. Many African American mothers want to breastfeed for the health benefits but have unique challenges in initiating and sustaining breastfeeding. When health care providers have knowledge of psychosocial factors and cultural beliefs underlying African American mothers' infant feeding decisions, they can more effectively assist in overcoming challenges and influence successful breastfeeding practices. During this session, the provider will gain knowledge of the psychosocial and cultural barriers that impact breastfeeding duration among African American mothers and evidence-based culturally sensitive breastfeeding assessment and supportive interventions will be presented that target their unique breastfeeding challenges. |
