Dr. Wendy Ross, is a leader in the field of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics who, in addition to her extensive academic and clinical work, created the first air travel program for families affected by autism. Dr. Ross is passionate about creating an inclusive environment for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Neurodiversity. Dr. Jane Tobias, is an Assistant Professor at the Jefferson College of Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia, PA. She is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care and a strong supporter of interprofessional collaboration and education. She brings her primary care pediatric expertise to the Jefferson Center for Autism and Neurodiversity, where, alongside Dr. Wendy Ross and her team, they are creating an inclusive environment for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Neurodiversity.

Lower Extremity Deformities in the Developing Child: Physiologic or Pathologic?

Often times, parents present to pediatric care providers with concerns regarding the appearance of their children’s legs, feet, or gait. This presentation will lay the foundation of lower extremity examination through reviewing the normal patterns of development in children. Benign causes of physiologic lower extremity and gait variations will be differentiated from pathologic causes. Learners will be able to accurately evaluate lower extremity variations, provide education and reassurance regarding the natural history of normal physiologic development and recognize red flags for pathologic deformities that require emergency care and referrals.

One pill can kill: A toxicology review of unintentional ingestions in toddlers and preschoolers

Toddlers and preschoolers are at an increased risk for fatal ingestions, and rapid identification and mitigation of such toxic ingestions is essential to the practice of pediatric-focused providers in the acute care setting. This presentation aims to review and outline fatal toxidromes in this age group, as well as discuss epidemiological trends of toxic substance ingestions within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Functional Gastrointestinal Disorder (FGID)

For non- members, this continuing education activity rate is $20. Nearly every day in a primary care setting, providers will encounter a patient with a functional gastrointestinal disorder. This module contains three separate presentations by international experts on topics related to functional GI disorders. The first presentation addresses the art of delivering care to children with FGID’s. Together, a pediatric gastroenterologist and psychologist discuss the proper assessment and diagnostic criteria when FGID is suspected and the best way to discuss this diagnosis with the patient and family. The second module is a brief review of the benefits of hypnosis in pediatrics. Former APGNN President, Robin Shannon APRN, provides practical tips for utilization of hypnosis. In the last presentation of this module, Dr. Miranda van Tilburg, PhD explores the contribution of early adverse childhood experiences (ACE) to the development of pediatric FGID’s. Following review of this 90 minute module, the provider will gain deeper understanding of how to assess, diagnose, treat and discuss the diagnosis of FGID. They will also have an increased awareness to factors related to pediatric functional gastrointestinal disorders.

Ethics in the PICU: The Art of Providing Care for the Chronically Critically Ill Child
