New insights into the immunopathology of FA have led to development of cautious use of controlled exposure to food allergens through allergen immunotherapy and emerging use of monoclonal antibody therapy to interfere with the synthesis of immunoglobulin E (IgE). The expert faculty will contextualize the mechanisms and available clinical trial data related to the use of biologic agents in FA as monotherapy and as adjunct therapy to allergen immunotherapy.

Research shows that early identification of child physical abuse reduces the rate of subsequent injury and death by up to 50%, yet children are not consistently screened for physical abuse due to insufficient provider knowledge and lack of a systematic screening protocol. This presentation will provide an overview of child physical abuse, including red flags and injuries that are suspicious for abuse. Using interactive case studies, participants will learn how to utilize the validated Escape instrument to screen and identify children at high risk for physical abuse. The presenter will also review an example screening protocol, important documentation guidelines and screening considerations for acute and primary care NPs across a variety of pediatric settings.
