Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, using the course’s content, learners will be able to:

  • Select the correct “Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” (IDEA) definition of Intellectual Disability (ID).
  • Recognize all 3 DSM 5 criteria that must be met for a medical diagnosis of Intellectual Disability.
  • List all the steps in the process of Referral to Special Education: How to request an evaluation by the school district.
  • Arrange in the correct order, all 6 steps of the Evaluation Process (Autism Community Toolkit, 2016).
  • Identify the 3 differences between the educational and medical systems.
