Target Audience
This activity is intended for pediatric-focused advanced practice providers (NPs and clinical nurse specialists).
Learning Objectives
• Recognize the risk of perinatal hepatitis C transmission from mother to infant.
• Review the epidemiology and increased prevalence of perinatal hepatitis C.
• Explain the effects of maternal hepatitis C infection on pregnancy and the newborn.
• Identify the available screening for perinatal and post-natal hepatitis C.
• List the diagnostic criteria for perinatal hepatitis C and perinatal-infected children.
• Access guidelines to develop plans of care, including collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Support families navigating a perinatal hepatitis C diagnosis with post-natal management, including support of the parent with a desire to breastfeed/chestfeed.
