JPHC CE: Secondhand Smoke Exposure in Pediatric Patients: What Is the Nurse Practitioner’s Role? 0.75 NAPNAP contact hour. This continuing education activity is offered free to NAPNAP Members. For nonmembers, this continuing education activity rate is $10. The detrimental impact of smoking is extensively known and documented. However, what about those who cannot make that choice for themselves? Unlike most adults, children have little to no control over their environment, relying heavily on the choices and actions of their parent(s). While this is true with various factors, it is especially true with secondhand smoke exposure (SHSe). No amount of smoke is a safe level to be around, especially in infancy and childhood. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) defines secondhand smoke (SHS) as “smoke emitted from a tobacco product or exhaled from a person who smokes that is inhaled by a person who does not smoke,” enveloping involuntary participants like infants and children (Jenssenetal.,2023). This continuing education paper strives to give insight into the dangers of SHSe for children, a guide for providers, and resources for parent(s) struggling with tobacco dependency. Female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C) is a serious global public health problem, violating the basic human rights of girls and woman. FGM/C is a form of child maltreatment. According to the World Health Organization 200 million girls and women have undergone FGM/C in thirty countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Studies indicate that healthcare professionals, including nurses and advanced practice registered nurses, report a lack of knowledge and comfort related to the identification and clinical management of FGM/C. It is critical that all healthcare professionals, including pediatric nurse practitioners (PNP), possess a thorough understanding of FGM/C and intervene appropriately. Infant Developmental Adaptation: Helping Parents Interpret and Manage Normal Infant Feeding and Sleep Behaviors 1.0 NAPNAP Contact Hour. In the absence of skilled lactation support, infant crying and unsettled behavior are often misconstrued as a sign of milk insufficiency or inadequacy and can lead to formula supplementation and premature cessation of breastfeeding. In this presentation, infant developmental adaptive behaviors will be presented to assist parents in interpreting infant feeding and disorganized sleep behaviors and how to respond accordingly without undermining breastfeeding. |

Acute Care PNP Certification Exam Review Course-2023 The fee for this course is $175 for NAPNAP Members and $200 for non-members. The certification exam review resources are designed to prepare graduates of acute care PNP programs for the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) acute care certification exam. Aligning with the revised content outline, these resources will focus on system-based acute care content and the role of the PNP in assessment, diagnosis and management of children with acute, critical and complex pediatric illnesses. NAPNAP’s self-paced certification exam review course includes recordings and downloadable handouts from our live acute care certification review course on Sept. 21-23, 2023. An exam outline was updated on Dec. 9, 2024 so a few lectures were updated based on that. The course will award 16.75 CE.
