Tele-etiquette and Webside Manner: Keys to a Successful Telehealth Encounter

Telehealth etiquette and webside manner are essential skills necessary to enhance the quality of virtual encounters and that of the patient-provider experience. Too often, these skills are incorrectly assumed to be intuitive. This session will utilize the PEP (Performance, Environment, Privacy and Security) model of telehealth etiquette to educate APRNs on these important components of virtual care.

Kelli M. Garber, DNP, APRN, PPCNP-BC
Dr. Kelli Garber is the lead APP and clinical integration specialist for the MUSC Center for Telehealth. In addition to providing oversight for the clinical operations of the MUSC School-Based Health Program, she provides care via telehealth to children across the state of SC. She also serves nationally as a telehealth consultant. Dr. Garber is a published author and an accomplished presenter on the topics of telehealth; telehealth and APRN practice; and school-based telehealth. She is currently the chair of the NAPNAP Health Policy Committee and represents NAPNAP as the liaison to the executive committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics section on telehealth care. A primary care PNP with more then 25 years of experience, she received her BSN at the Johns Hopkins University, her MSN in advanced practice pediatric nursing at the University of Maryland, and her DNP from Old Dominion University.

Katherine Chike-Harris, DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC, NE
Dr. Katherine Chike-Harris graduated from August College in 1991 with a BS in chemistry; Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 2007 with a BSN, 2009 with a MSN (pediatric focus) and 2011 with a MNE and her DNP. Her APRN practice has been in pediatric primary care, serving the underserved populations,  first within a FQHC and now through MUSC Center of Telehealth School-based Telemedicine clinics part-time. Dr. Chike-Harris’ full-time role is as an assistant professor for MUSC’s College Of Nursing where she teaches in the DNP program and is currently in charge of integrating telehealth education into the BS, DNP, and PhD nursing curricula. Dr. Chike-Harris is an active member of NAPNAP, serving as chair for both the School-based Health SIG, education committee chair of the SC chapter of NAPNAP, and a NAPNAP Foundation board member.
