Studies have shown the benefits of SMART (single maintenance and rescue therapy) have improved asthma control, reduced exacerbations, decreased oral steroid use and improved quality of life for patients not controlled with conventional therapy. SMART likely improves long-term asthma control and reduces the potential for over reliance on SABAs (short acting beta agonists). In this presentation, SMART will be presented in the context of case studies, and we will review challenges to implementation of SMART.
