Primary Care for Children with Complex Chronic Conditions: Heart, Kidneys, Lungs and Brain

The presenters will address four chronic health conditions that can present challenges to the pediatric-focused NP in a primary care clinic: congenital heart disease, chronic renal failure, post traumatic brain injury and cystic fibrosis. Clinical experts will present the primary care needs of children with medical complexity, which may be different from other children coming to your clinic, including  vaccination schedules, medications, developmental considerations and when to call the specialist.

This continuing education activity is administered by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) as an Agency providing continuing education credit. Individuals who complete this program will be awarded 1.0 NAPNAP contact hour, of which 0.25 contain pharmacology content.

Cathy  Woodward, DNP, APRN, CPNP-AC, FNP-BC
Dr. Woodward is a DNP prepared acute care PNP with more than 20 years of experience in critical care. She has lectured locally, nationally and internationally on a variety of topics both in person and virtually. Her research interests and publications have been on preventing sternal wound infections in children.

Chelsea Woosley, DNP, RN, CPNP-AC
Dr. Maria (Chelsea) Woosley is an assistant professor of pediatrics for the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC) and the associate chair for APPs in the Department of Pediatrics.  She completed her nursing and PNP degrees from UTHSC, and she achieved a post-master’s certificate as a PNP-AC and her DNP from Vanderbilt University. She has practiced for more than 17 years in the PICU at a pediatric level 1 trauma center and has published in acute care and trauma research literature.  She serves as a mentor and educator to NP students, medical students, pediatric residents and fellows, and she was voted two years in a row as Best NP by the pediatric residents. Dr. Woosley serves as a member-at-large on the NAPNAP Executive Board.

Dorinda Escamilla-Padilla, DNP, RN, PNP-PC/AC

Emiko Dudley, MSN, APRN, CPNP AC-PC
Emiko Dudley is a graduate of Texas Tech University Health Science Center where she received her MSN Primary Care PNP and then a Post Master's Certificate in Acute Care from University of Texas at El Paso, School of Nursing. She is in the LEAPP CF Fellowship sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She has worked as a PNP in a NICU graduate high-risk primary care clinic, urgent care, and is now in Pediatric Pulmonology and Cystic Fibrosis as a specialist for UT Health San Antonio. She currently serves on the Nominations Committee and is the past president of the South Texas Alamo Chapter of NAPNAP.
