ForwardCompetencies and Standards for Adolescent Healthcare: Using WHO newly revised guidance to meet adolescents’ needs in the U.S.
This continuing education activity is a recorded presentation for NAPNAP's 2026 National Conference.
In November 2025, the WHO will release the first updated adolescent health guidance documents in ten years, establishing new global standards and core competencies for health care professionals working with young people. This presentation will equip pediatric nurse practitioners with essential knowledge to adapt and implement these groundbreaking, holistic guidelines in their clinical practice and educational settings. The course will award 1.00 contact hours and is offered at a reduced rate to NAPNAP Members. This continuing education activity rate is $10 for NAPNAP Members, and $20 for non-members.

• Explain the intentional process undertaken to develop comprehensive, practical and relevant documents, including consultation of global youth and experts.
• Summarize the updated standards for adolescent health care per WHO Global standards for quality health care services for adolescents, 2nd edition.
• Define the new core competencies per the adolescent health and well-being thematic module: global competency and outcomes framework for universal health coverage guidance.
• Determine how the updated guidance can be used to enhance the care of adolescent patients and their families through education, practice, quality improvement
