Trauma has been reported, with up to half of all children 18 years and younger in the U.S. facing at least one adverse childhood experience (ACE) in childhood. Trauma in the absence of safe and nurturing relationships affects health outcomes. Despite campaigns promoting relational care with children and families, many pediatric-focused APRNs are unaware of the shift in trauma-informed care (TIC) to a strengths-based focus from an ACEs-score focus alone. Pediatric-focused APRNs are strong advocates for children, and this presentation will provide a better understanding of the need for a strengths-based approach to impact long-term health outcomes for children.
