ADHD 300: Beyond the Basics

The purpose of this presentation is to have a case-based discussion to increase primary care provider (PCP) confidence in caring for children with ADHD symptoms who have other co-morbidities and those who do not have successful clinical response to first medication use. Included in the discussion are the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, anxiety, autism and explosive anger disorder; the guidelines for screening and diagnosis; and discussion of the pharmacologic therapies that reduce core symptoms of the conditions. Ethics in the PICU: The Art of Providing Care for the Chronically Critically Ill Child

With the advancement of technology, many of these children are surviving and even thriving. However, ethical conflict can sometimes arise between providers and caregivers when these children become critically ill. Providers must then discuss and merge these conflicts while keeping the best interests of the child in mind. The presenter will review an ethical principles and discuss relevant cases studies, providing in-depth discussion regarding strategies to providing compassionate, ethical care in the PICU for these critically ill children.

Exclusion Delusion: What to Do with Abnormal Findings During the Sports Preparticipation Physical Examination (PPE)
1.25 NAPNAP Contact Hour, 0 Pharmacology Hour Around 35 million student athletes under that age of 18 receive clearance to participate in sporting activities each year. The findings of past medical history and the physical examination will result in the athlete being cleared for participation, not being cleared or needing further evaluation. The course will explore abnormal findings that indicate when an athlete should not be cleared or requires further evaluation, as well as the next steps in the plan of care.
