Providers will gain a better understanding of the initial presenting symptoms of common pediatric autoimmune diseases, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, IgA vasculitis, Kawasaki disease and rheumatic fever. This life-saving, innovative workshop and leadership opportunity is specifically developed for pediatric focused NPs to learn about child trafficking, methods of identification and referral and, most importantly, prevention. According to the CDC, 2-5 million, animal bites occur annually in the United States and per the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), close to 10,000 insect bites or stings were reported to their centers. This presentation will be delivered in a case study format to help the participant identify needed history taking, recognize proper wound care if needed, and delineate required interventions. Lastly, appropriate pharmacology will be introduced, including a discussion on if and when antimicrobials and prophylaxis are warranted.
